Cuur Review

The good: Green tea, the main active ingredient, is proven to increase metabolism and burn fat.

The bad: No studies have shown that Cuur is effective as a weight loss supplement.

The bottom line: The ingredient list sure sounds great, but without clinical data to back up those claims, we prefer to stick with a tried and true product that is willing to lay the results out in front of your before you buy their product.

Price: $39.95 per month

cuurIn Sweden, Cuur is extremely popular as a weight loss supplement. That popularity is quickly moving to the United States. But, popularity does not always mean the product will work as stated on the bottle or the website. The Cuur website claims the product is, “different from other weight loss supplements because it’s all natural and clinically tested.”  Unfortunately, this is only the first of several false claims on the website.

Cuur is manufactured by a Scandinavian company called Scandinavian Clinical Nutrition. The company  “is a newly established Swedish company, focused on marketing, sales, research and development of nutraceuticals that are clinically proven safe and effective, “ according to the Cuur website. But we have yet to find evidence of any clinical trial or studies on Cuur.

The Cuur Makeup

A weight loss supplement will only be as effective as the ingredients placed in the product. Cuur includes on the labeling:

  • CUUR Thurmogenic Proprietary Formula 659 mg*
  • Green Tea Extract (Standardized to contain active compound EGCG)
  • Birch Extract Betula alba
  • Yerba Mate Extract IIlex Paraguariensis
  • Coleus Forskohli Extract Plectranthus barbatus

The term “proprietary” is a simpler way of stating that the total amounts of the listed ingredients will not be expressed on the label. Upon closer examination, the Q&A section of the site offers specifics on the amount of ECGC in the formula, 570 mg (green tea) per 3 capsule serving.

What Does Cuur Research Offer?

According to the Cuur website, a Polish study was done on the formula but the results have been left unpublished. If Cuur is such a great product, why leave the results a secret?

Green Tea

When looking into the ingredients found in Cuur, green tea is one of the most tested ingredients in any weight loss supplement. Green tea and extracts of green tea have been found to help in the reduction of overall body weight and body fat.

A Study on Green Tea and Weight Loss

According to one such study, “The development of obesity is characterized by an increase in adipose tissue mass and by concomitant and profound changes in almost all organ functions leading to diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease. Recent data from human studies indicate that the consumption of green tea and green tea extracts may help reduce body weight, mainly body fat, by increasing postprandial thermogenesis and fat oxidation. However, human studies investigating the metabolic effects of the most predominant tea catechin, EGCG, alone are absent.”

Betula Alba

Another ingredient, betula alba, has been tested, but not for its benefits in a weight loss setting. Betula alba is widely known as an ingredient aimed at soothing the skin and purifying.

Yerba Mate

Yerba mate, on the other hand, has been tested and proven effective in aiding weight loss. The effectiveness of this supplement, however, is highly dependent upon the presence of guarana and damiana and has never been tested as a stand alone product.

Forskolin

Forskolin, an up and coming supplement, has also been tested through research. One study has lead researchers to believe the use of forshkohli in obese men may help to manage and treat obesity. “Oral ingestion of forskolin (250 mg of 10% forskolin extract twice a day) for a 12-week period was shown to favorably alter body composition while concurrently increasing bone mass and serum free testosterone levels in overweight and obese men.” ((http://www.nature.com/oby/journal/v13/n8/abs/oby2005162a.html))

It seems that Cuur is packing some heavy punchers in the weight loss aid supplement category, but not unlike many weight loss aids, the product does not offer the amounts of each supplement in their exclusive formula. These supplements are most effective when consumed at certain levels and without that knowledge, Cuur is just another bottle claiming to do something it can not prove.

Other important factors of Cuur include:

Marketing – Celebrity advertising including Tom Arnold who supposedly lost 30 pounds while on Cuur.

“Secrets” - The three main pieces to the weight loss puzzle, according to Cuur, are the Cuur supplement, a healthy diet and exercise.

Cuur Conclusive Results

While the ingredient list sure sounds great, without clinical data to back up those claims, you should stick with a tried and true product that is willing to lay the results out in front of your before you buy their product.
